We are looking for a Firmware Developer to join the team!  In this role, you will be developing high-quality, scalable, and maintainable code to implement innovative features and improve existing ones.  You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams of designers, product managers, and fellow engineers to bring creative ideas to life.  You will actively be participating in code reviews, ensuring that the best practices and standards are met.  Troubleshooting and resolving software bugs and performance issues are another aspect of the position.  You will be continuously learning and staying up-to-date with the latest industry trends, tools, and technologies. You will generate and maintain documentation for testing, manufacturing, and product specification.   You support the development/maintenance of project proposals and plans by providing inputs on technical tasks, schedules, and cost estimates.

 

We are looking for candidates that meet the following profile:

  • Due to security requirements, must be a Canadian citizen, or a permanent resident of Canada, and will be required to provide a criminal record check as a condition of employment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineer, Computer Science; with a strong academic record.
  • 5+ years of experience in board‐level analog/digital design and firmware development.
  • Experience with bootloaders, device drivers and their communications protocols.
  • Extensive experience with hardware interfaces such as SPI, I2C, PWM, ADC, UART, USB and PCIe.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • A deep understanding of computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
  • Advanced capabilities in board bring up, board, and system troubleshooting, with advanced user knowledge of common tools such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, logic analyzers etc.
  • Experience in programming FPGAs (VHDL preferred) and microcontrollers (C, C++). Detailed knowledge of Xilinx products is an asset.
  • You have experience reading and working with schematic/circuit diagrams as well as vendor-provided technical reference manuals and data-sheets.
  • Generating clear and detailed technical documents, including system architecture designs, requirements and verification matrices, design specifications, test procedures, and technical reports/presentations. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Experience supporting the development/maintenance of project proposals and plans by providing inputs on technical tasks, schedule, and cost estimates.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interfacing with customers and working within a multi‐ disciplinary team of scientific, engineering, manufacturing, and management personnel.
  • Must be creative, self‐motivated, organized, receptive to constructive feedback, and able to learn quickly on a continuous basis.
  • Must be willing and able to travel internationally on an occasional basis.
